Five habits of teams that ship every week

Small slices, one place to look, and a definition of done that includes the release note.

Teams that ship every week are rarely faster typists. They are better at cutting work into pieces that can go out on their own.

Cut the slice, not the corner

A slice is the smallest change a customer can notice. If it needs three other slices before it means anything, it is not a slice yet.

Keep one place to look

  • One board for what is in flight.

  • One channel for what shipped.

  • One page for what is next.

Done means released

Work is done when it is live and someone has told the people it is for. The release note is part of the work, not a chore after it.

If it is not in the release note, it did not ship.

Start with one habit. Next week, add another.
