A taste checklist to run before you write the first prompt

Ten questions that take an hour and can save you a quarter of building the wrong thing at full speed.

Part of our series on taste and shipping fast.

Print this, or paste it at the top of your planning doc. If you can't answer a question, that is your first piece of work, before any code.

What

  1. Who exactly is this for? Name a person you have spoken to.

  2. What do they do today instead, and what does that cost them?

  3. What is the one thing this must do better than anything else they have?

  4. What will it deliberately not do, even though it could?

When

  1. What changed recently that makes this possible or necessary now?

  2. Who else is trying, and why will they not simply do this next month?

Why

  1. In the customer's words, why would they switch? Quote them.

  2. Why are we the people to build it?

How we'll know

  1. What is the smallest thing we can ship to learn whether we are right?

  2. What number, or what behaviour, tells us we were wrong, and when will we look?

Then open your agent and build as fast as you can. You have earned it.
